octet with pneumonia

that cold March rain's cascade of influenza;
raindrops magnified against a glass bus shelter—

the next bus coughs, kneeling, exhaling all air;
fever one o three living room gone orange—

alveoli collapsed already, heart muscle
aflutter: a blackbird trapped in a chimney—

an oxygen concentrator's ghost breaths count
night's moments—as if daybreak's birds may yet fly
